2. ROCK GLOW
Agnes aims to create a TikTok video highlighting the lives of people with sickle cell disease in Uganda’s Kumi District. As a rural area, Kumi faces limited healthcare access and significant financial challenges. As one of the few college students in her town, Agnes is determined to break the silence surrounding the disease.
In the isolated Kumi district of rural Uganda, families battling sickle cell disease face a crisis fueled by poverty and a fragile healthcare system. Beyond the severe physical suffering, the constant lack of care and pervasive uncertainty take a heavy toll on their mental health. As the second installment in a trilogy, this documentary follows a local advocate working with families in the Teso region, capturing both their profound hardships and the resilience that endures beneath systemic neglect.
1. CHICKEN GHETTO
This documentary project explores the lives of families affected by sickle cell disease in Uganda, offering an intimate look at their resilience and determination. Set against the backdrop of urban slums and challenging living conditions, the film goes beyond the struggles of illness and poverty to highlight the strength, courage, and unwavering spirit of those who fight for a meaningful life.
Rather than portraying them as the vulnerable family of a patient, this story reveals them as warriors, navigating hardships with hope and perseverance in the slums. Through their journeys, the documentary aims to foster a deeper understanding of their reality.
